Dr. Jerry Brown Ph.D. - Dep. of  Science and Engineering

Dr. Jerry Brown is the Director of the Foundations of Discovery. He travels the world speaking to educators, business leaders and professionals about the next generation. He uses his extensive knowledge of history and important discoveries to illustrate concepts that entertain and educate.

As Director of the Foundations of Discovery, he works to expand minds and offer stimulating and exciting learning opportunities to all ages. The focus of the Discovery Series is to work with business and educators nationwide encouraging them to incorporate great discovery themes into the teaching day. In doing so students are motivated to excel and exceed current standards. His programs have been accredited at 17 major universities across the USA.

During 14 years with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and 10 years as a director with the U. S. Space Foundation, he has trained thousands of teachers and students. As an accomplished pilot, he brings his unique expertise to the classroom or boardroom with a liberal dose of humour and motivation.

 

Prof. Rohan Gunaratna M.Sc., Ph.D., FRSA -  Dep. of Terrorism Studies

Rohan Gunaratna is Head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, Institute of Defence and Strategic studies, Singapore; Senior Fellow at the Combating Terrorism Centre, United States Military Academy, West Point; and Honorary Fellow at the International Policy Institute for Counter Terrorism in Israel. He has 21 years of operational, academic and policy experience on Middle Eastern, Asian (including Central Asian and Caucasian), and Latin American guerrilla and terrorist groups and their diaspora and migrant support networks in Europe and North America. He led the specialist team that designed and built the UN database on the mobility, finace and weapons of Al Qaeda, Taliban and their Entities. A counter terrorism trainer for European, North American, Middle Eastern and Asian government agencies, he was invited to testify before the 9/11 commission on Al Qaeda and provide testimony in several landmark trials in North America and Europe. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Gunaratna holds as Masters in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame in the US and a Doctorate in International Relations from the University of St Andrews. He is the author of ten books including the international bestseller "Inside Al Qaeda: Global Network of Terror" (Columbia University Press).

Hon., Prof. Joseph F. Connolly, II B.A. (Magna Cum Laude), LL.B., M.M.A., M.Ed., J.D., F.S.M.A., F.R.S.A. - Head - Department of Military Studies

Professor Joseph F. Connolly, II, Chair of the Department of Military Studies is a specialist in unconventional warfare. He was medically retired from the United States Army Special Forces (the "Green Berets) after more than thirty years military service, having participated in eight named military campaigns and on expeditionary service. During this period he earned a number of U.S. and foreign awards, decorations, and badges. His professional military education includes the Air Command and Staff College and Industrial College of the Armed Forces. In addition, he holds a number of licenses, certificates, registrations, and sundry other qualifications in a variety of professional and avocational fields, usually reaching the highest level of proficiency in each before starting over again in another. This diverse background is reflected in those positions held in the public and private sectors; his elected and appointed government positions; and, those voluntary positions he has held in service to his community and nation.

Professor Connolly is both a former Public Safety Director, and a former Fire Commissioner in the State of Florida. He has also been certified or licensed by the State of Florida as a law enforcement officer, fire company officer, smoke diver, emergency medical technician, firearms instructor, and private investigator. He is a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute, and is Certified in Homeland Security at Level V (CHS-V), the highest designation, by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.
